A New Look!!

As you can see, my blog got a little makeover recently! Jessica, from Diamond Doll Design, gave my blog a much needed facelift. Sophia's beautiful face has been added to the header, and all of the pictures in the header have been updated. I asked for something bright, but not too bright, and I am very pleased with the results!

I am still tweaking a few behind the scenes things, and trying to get all of the posts organized into categories. I also need to update the About Us section and a few other sections. So it is still a work in progress.

At the top, under the header, there are several icons (an envelope, a Facebook icon, Twitter icon, etc.). The envelope is one you can click to email me, the second one you can use to subscribe to my RSS feed (for Google Reader), the Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram ones are links to follow me on any of those sites.

She also made a "Grab Me" button for y'all to use on your blogs, websites, etc. to link back to my blog if you'd like. It is on the left hand side of the blog. :)

I am hoping to start blogging more often. If you look over at the archives, you can see that my blogging has become less and less frequent. I want to get back into the habit of blogging more often! This serves as my scrapbook and is a way for me to keep track of all of the things going on in our lives. I love to look back at posts from last year or the year before just to see what was going on at that time. It is crazy how quickly I forget things!

I have a few new things I am going to try so that I can keep a more accurate record of each of the kids and the things going on in their lives. I also hope to make this more of a journal for myself.

All of that to say, I hope you all like the new look of my blog, and I hope you all enjoy what you read here! If you are looking for a new blog design for your own blog, I would highly recommend Jessica from Diamond Doll Design. She is fast, affordable, and easy to work with! Tell her Katie from The Quiroz Family sent you! Happy blogging!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! Can you believe 2013 is already here?! I can't even count the number of times I've written 2012 as the date and then had to change it to 2013. Jenny brought home some papers from school today and the dates said 01/03/12. Haha!

Anyway, we are hoping for a good year around here! 2012 was tough, I sure hope 2013 is better. We rang in the New Year with a small sleepover party for the kids. They each invited a friend and we ate snacks, played games, danced, and stayed up to see the ball drop. It was a lot of fun! My kids are still talking about how much fun they had.

I am a little disappointed that the holidays are already over, but I am looking forward to Valentine's Day. I know a lot of people think it is a cheesy holiday and it's a lame excuse for flower and chocolate companies to make some money. I see their point, but I don't see what's wrong with a special day to show someone how much you love them. I always get the kids something for Valentine's Day too, and we make pink cupcakes. I just think it is a lot of fun!

I am also looking forward to an upcoming consignment sale where I will be selling some of the kids' old clothes. This will be my 2nd time selling. It is a great way to make some extra cash! I also love buying stuff at the sale - they usually have some great deals! Plus it's all stuff I would just throw away otherwise. Why not make some extra money?

This post is very random and kind of pointless. I am hoping to make my blog more of an online journal for myself along with a family scrapbook. Jenny told me she wants to start a blog too. She's only seven! I told her I would think about it. Obviously it would be private. I think it might be a good "diary" for her and it could help improve her typing and writing skills. Do any of your kids have their own blogs?

I really need to get going - the kids are in bed and I can hear them talking. Time to go tell them to be quiet. Happy New Year, y'all!

The Third Annual Commenting Challenge: Social Networking

Day 3 of the Commenting Challenge is all about social media and our favorite websites. I don't really use social media for my blog, but I do have a personal account through Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram (@KatieLQuiroz). If you don't have a Pinterest account, let me know and I can send you an invite!

My husband and I use Amazon a lot, too. We have purchased several items from their site and have always had a good experience. I also use Amazon to download e-books for my Kindle. Amazon offers lots of free ebooks as well. They have a top 100 free e-book list for the Kindle, and you can even search to find more freebies.

I have also recently started using Swagbucks. Swagbucks is a search engine where you can earn points and trade them in for rewards. Read more about it here.

The Third Annual Commenting Challenge: Why I Blog

Today's topic in the Commenting Challenge is to write about why I blog.

First of all, if you are new to my blog, welcome! You can go and read all about me in my post from yesterday here.

I have been blogging for over two years. I started out by reading blogs and eventually mustered up the courage to start my own. It has been a lot of fun so far! I mostly blog about my family and our life. This has been a great way for me to write about big events and even little things that I'd like to remember. I love going back and reading old posts to see what we were doing this time last month or even this time last year. My blog has become my online journal, family scrapbook, and baby books for each of our children.

Occasionally, I'll post recipes from things I have made and liked. You can find those here. I haven't posted any new recipes in a while, but hopefully soon I'll be able to get a few new ones posted.

I am working on some ideas for weekly blog posts about each of our three children. With Sophia being so little right now, and changing everyday, I find myself getting caught up in taking her pictures and blogging mostly about her. I'd like to be better about blogging more about each child. So be on the look out for some new weekly blog posts from me!

What types of things do you like to blog about? Why did you start blogging? I'd love to hear from you in the comments!

The Third Annual Commenting Challenge: About Me!

I am participating in the Jenna's Journey Third Annual Commenting Challenge. I have participated the last two years with great success, so I thought I'd try it again.

Today's writing topic is to write about yourself. If you have been reading my blog for long, you've probably noticed that I don't write about myself very often. I am also usually the one behind the lense of our camera, so I'm not in very many pictures either. I need to try to be better about letting my husband take more pictures so that I can be in some of them too!

If you are new to my blog, welcome! My name is Katie. I live with my husband, Jaime, and our three children, Jenny, Aiden, and Sophia. We live in Georgia, which is where I was born and raised.

I have been a stay at home mom since my son was about 9 months old. I truly enjoy being able to stay home with our children. Out of all of the jobs I have had in the past, this one has been the most rewarding. It is also the busiest, and can be the most difficult.

I met my husband and his daughter, Jenny, in April of 2007. Jenny was just 19 months old at the time. We had our first child, Aiden, in November of 2008. Sophia was born in April of 2012. Now, Jenny is 6 years old, Aiden is 3, and Sophia is almost 3 months. Jenny and Aiden are the best of friends! I'm sure once Sophia is old enough, she will be joining in with them too! It has been such a joy watching them grow up. I consider myself very blessed to be able to stay home with them everyday!

Blog Catch Up

Wow - it is already February 9, and this is my first post for 2012. Rather than trying to blog everything that we've been up to, I'm just going to post a few pictures from our 2012 so far. Here goes....

Thankful Thursday

Keeping with what I started last year, I am going to do a "Thankful Thursday" everyday in the month of November. You can read last year's Thankful posts here, here, here, and here.

I am thankful for...

1. This blog. How it enables me to express my thoughts, and share our stories with you all. I am also thankful that years from now, I will have a place where I can look back and see what our lives looked like.

2. Our apartment. Even though it is smaller than I'd like, and I would prefer a house, I am still thankful that we have a roof over our heads.

3. Mornings with Aiden. I love spending time with Aiden early in the morning when we first get up. I love the time we spend with him sitting in my lap while we both wake up and get ready to start our day.

4.  The car rider line. I am thankful for the time that I get to spend with Jenny when we are in the car together on our way to or from school. Most of the time, it is just her and I in the car so it gives us extra time to talk about her day.

5. Technology. I am thankful for how it helps me to stay connected to my friends and family.

6. Baking with Aiden and Jenny. We don't bake as often as we did before, but when we do, it is so much fun!

7. Waking up beside the best man on earth every single morning.

8. Strong friendships old and new.

9. God's Word and the promises that He brings.

10. Health. For me and for my family.

11. Aiden and Jenny. I love the joy and laughter they bring into my life!

12. The little baby girl who will be joining our family in April. A true blessing from God!

13. A wonderful family who loves me unconditionally.

14. Good music. My favorite right now is Adele!

15. Twenty-four years worth of incredible memories!

To be continued.

Interview with Aiden

I saw this on a few other blogs, and thought I would ask Aiden these questions. Some of his responses were pretty funny....

What is your name? Aiden

How old are you? Two and a half

What is your favorite color? Green

Who is your best friend? Jenny

What is your favorite animal? Lion

What do you want to be when you grow up? I grow up sometimes

What is your favorite movie? Rango (he has never seen Rango)

What is your favorite book? Buzz Lightyear

What makes you happy? A party

What makes you sad? I don't know

What is your favorite food to eat? Popsicles

What is your favorite song to sing? Jesus Loves Me

What games do you like to play? Donkey Kong (he watches Jenny play this on the Wii)

I'm going to do a survey like this with Jenny next week. Maybe I'll interview them both every so many months to see how their answers change.

Weekly Randoms

Yay for it already being Thursday! It's almost the weekend!

It has been so hot here lately. The highs have been in the high 80's to low 90's. I thought it was still Spring, but apparently Summer decided to come a little early this year. If this is a sign of the months to come, I may have to stay indoors with the air conditioner on all summer. Haha!

I can't believe there are only a little over two weeks of school left! My little Kindergarten Baby is almost a 1st grader!! Why does 1st grade seem so much "bigger" than kindergarten? It's only a year difference, but it seems like much more than that. Good thing is, Jenny has done great in school all year! She actually has her last spelling test of the year this Friday. The test is a review over all of her words learned this year - there are 237 words! She and I have been practicing all week, and she is doing really good! When we practiced yesterday, she only missed 2 out of 237. I had planned on giving her a special gift after kindergarten is over, but I told her that if she got at least 220 out of 237 correct, I would give her the gift on Friday instead. She is trying really hard!

Aiden's new favorite movie is Toy Story. There for a while he really liked Cars. He still does, but I think he now likes Toy Story better. He has a Woody doll and a Buzz Lightyear already, and he plays with them all the time. He wants to take Woody with him everywhere. It drives me crazy because Woody's hat doesn't stay on his head, so I am always having to search for Woody's hat and make sure we have it before we leave anywhere. A few weeks ago I had to dump the toy box out several times to get Woody's hat out of the bottom of it. I really need to just glue the hat to Woody's head. Haha!

Aiden also has a Mr. Potato Head obsession. He loves taking all of the pieces off and then rebuilding him. Once again, normally not a problem - except for when he loses pieces and I have to tear the house apart trying to find them. He also gets upset when he can't get the pieces on correctly. He brings me Mr. Potato Head at least once a day and tells me that "Mr. Potato Head isn't perfect anymore! Mr. Potato Head is broken!". Haha. He has also recently started telling me that "Aiden isn't perfect anymore!". I'm not sure what he means, because he says it very randomly. I was thinking maybe he said it whenever he got hurt or something, but he says it sometimes when he is perfectly fine. Weird.

For Mother's Day, Jaime bought me an Amazon Kindle! I have been wanting one for a while now, but debated about getting one or not. I love reading, and spend so much money on books. Since books are cheaper on the Kindle, Jaime thought it would be a good investment for us. Now that I have it, I love it! I can buy tons of books and never even have to leave my house!

The other day when Jenny and I were in the car, she informed me that she has hair growing on her legs and she needs to start shaving. I then informed her that she was nuts, and she is only 5 years old - she will not be shaving anytime soon. Haha.

Yesterday after I took Jenny to school, Aiden and I went through the drive-thru at Dunkin' Donuts. I think it may have been my first time trying their coffee. I'm not sure if I have been living under a rock or what, but that was the best coffee I have ever had! Watch out Starbucks! :)

After hearing so many good things about it, I finally started watching The Voice. Just like everyone else, I am hooked! It is so good - much better than American Idol. I love that it is based on their talent and nothing else, since the judges can't even see them before they make their choice. American Idol is based more on their "look" rather than their talent.

Since Aiden has started potty training, I was a load of his clothes at least once a day. It's not even a full load, it's mostly just underwear and shorts. Potty training Aiden is much harder than I ever remember it being with Jenny. Maybe because with Jenny I didn't have so much other stuff going on? Sometimes with Aiden I feel like I just don't have time for it. Or like we are too busy and on the go too much for potty training right now. I have been told by many people that consistency is key when it comes to potty training. It's hard to be consistent about potty training when I have a schedule that is anything but consistent. He is getting better though, so hopefully it won't be too much longer.

Do you ever have weeks or days where you feel like you have been so busy but at the same time you feel like you haven't been doing anything? That's how I feel lately. I feel like I haven't hardly been home because we've been so busy, but at the same time my house is a big mess. We haven't even been here, how did it get so messy?

I think that's about all I have time for today. I hope you are all having a great week! :)

Random Phone Pics

Aiden's tattoos he got from Uncle Billy

Licking the wisks after making banana pudding.

A sweet Easter card I got from a friend on Twitter.

Aiden chowing down on some corn on the cob. My mom and I laughed so hard at the way he was eating it. Everytime he would take a bite he would talk about how good it was. Haha!

On Sunday Jaime, Aiden, and I went to eat dinner at Applebee's. Aiden fell asleep during dinner.

A few weeks ago, when I was outside, Aiden came outside with me. He came outside a few minutes after I did though, and when he came out, these are the shoes he had on. He said they were "flip-flops". Hilarious!

This is from a Girl Scout outing that Jenny and I went to a few weekends ago. This was snack time. They were making ladybugs with apple halves, peanut butter, raisens, and pretzel sticks. Cute!

Blog Makeover

It has been a long time coming, but I finally broke down and got a custom blog layout. I have been wanting one for a while, but couldn't really decide if it was worth it. Now that I have it though, I love it! A big thanks to Krizzy Designs for designing it! It looks great, and it was well worth it! If you or anyone you know is looking for a custom blog, I would definitely recommend using Krizzy Designs!

Thanksgiving 2010

Here are a few pictures from our Thanksgiving this year.

After our dinner, we went to see the Lighting of the Tree in Lawrenceville.

I'm considering this one for our Christmas card. Thoughts?
