First Day of April

It is finally starting to feel like Spring around here! This seemed like it was the longest Winter ever, so it is nice to enjoy some warmer weather!

We woke up this morning to a sweet face peeking out at us through her crib rails. As much as I am ready for Sophia to have her own room, I know will miss her once she is not in our room anymore. Poor Jaime has a cold, so we spent most of the day in the house. He was off from work today, so it was nice to have him home, even if he didn't feel well.

I am using this week to do some spring cleaning. I am hoping to have it all done by Sunday so that we can enjoy next week. Next week is Jenny's spring break. We have lots of doctor and dentist appointments scheduled next week, so I want to try and take advantage of the time we are able to spend doing fun things. I definitely don't want to spend the week cleaning! Today we started with cleaning out the van and washing the outside. If you know me well, you will know that I have never ever had a clean vehicle! It is usually always full of things that don't belong. When I was younger it was things like: trash, extra clothes, shoes, etc. Now that I have kids it is usually: trash, toys, sippy cups, clothes, jackets, shoes, video games, etc. This time it was particularly bad because it hadn't been cleaned out in a while! Between Girl Scouts and Aiden's baseball games, plus all of the other things in between, it had gotten out of control! Jaime and Aiden cleaned out the inside while Sophia took a nap and I cleaned a few things inside the house. After Sophia's nap, we went to the car wash where we washed the outside and vacuumed and cleaned the inside.

After the car wash we went to the park so that Aiden could practice baseball with Jaime. Jaime doesn't really like baseball, and he has never played before. Where he is from, soccer is more commonly played. So he and I helped Aiden together. Jaime even said that he thinks that Aiden's baseball bat might be the first real bat he has ever swung! Aiden wasn't too thrilled about coming to the park to practice. All he wanted to do was play on the playground. First he practiced throwing and catching the ball, and then he practiced hitting. Eventually we told him that after he hit the ball three times, we could go to the playground. There's nothing wrong with a little bribery if you as me! Especially since it helped him to be more serious - and it wasn't long before he hit the ball three times!

We headed to the playground where he had a blast! Sophia played on the swings, and tried out the slide. She really loved swinging, but she wasn't too sure about the slide. Haha! We put her on a slide last week for the first time, and she liked it. This slide was a little different though, it was steeper. I think it made her a little scared.

Once it got so dark it was difficult to see, we came home and had a late dinner of sub sandwiches. Publix makes the best sandwiches. I think I might like theirs better than Subway. Aiden and Sophia were up past bedtime, so hopefully they will sleep in a little tomorrow. I doubt it!

Tomorrow is day two of spring cleaning. I haven't even decided what I am going to clean yet. Whatever I do, I also need to do the laundry too. After our busy Easter weekend, the laundry is out of control! Funny how it seems like whenever I focus on a certain area, like today I focused on the van, it seems like all of the other areas of the house fall apart and get out of control. Most of the time I really feel like it is impossible to have a perfectly clean house all of the time. This stay at home mom stuff is much harder than it looks!

I hope you all had a wonderful first day of April and I hope you didn't fall for too many April Fool's Jokes!

Long Time, No Post

Hey, friends. Can you believe it has been so long since my last blog post?? I know, I know. I'm slacking in the blog department. Honestly, though, there hasn't been much to report. Life has been fairly "slow" lately, so there haven't really been any big photo opporunities or events to write about. We still haven't really done anything blog worthy. But there have been a few things going on that I thought I should blog about. Especially since this is supposed to be an online family scrapbook of sorts.

First of all, Jenny has her very first loose tooth! It is in the front on the bottom row of teeth. It has been loose for close to two weeks, and she is very excited. She has been telling us about her friends who have loose teeth or who have already started loosing their baby teeth. I think she was starting to feel a little left out. Last night after she brushed her teeth I was looking at her tooth, and behind it I can see where her adult tooth has already broke through the gums. Should we be concerned about this? I know it is supposed to come through, but the baby tooth hasn't even fallen out yet. I am thinking of calling her dentist to see if there is something we should do, or maybe I am just overreacting.

Aiden hasn't really had much going on lately. However, little does he know, his whole world is fixing to be turned upside down! Potty training in our house starts this Friday, April 1st. No, it is not an April Fool's joke. This is the real thing. We have been trying to tell him that he will be using the potty soon, and that he won't need diapers anymore. I was going to start back when he turned two in November, but then decided to wait until Spring. Wish me luck, this boy is stubborn!!

Jenny has been asking for a Nintendo Wii for quite some time. She wanted one for Christmas, but by the time she told us she wanted one, all of her gifts had already been bought. She has been saving up her spelling test money each week - she gets $10 every week that she gets 100% on her spelling test. Since she didn't get the Wii for Christmas, she decided she would save up her spelling test money to buy one. As of last week, she was up to $110. She has really been getting frustrated though, because she doesn't quite understand the concept of money and having enough to purchase something. So, as a surpise, and since she has worked so hard this year in school, Jaime and I went out yesterday and bought her the Wii. It came with two games (Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort) and we also bought her a Dora the Explorer game to go with it and an extra controller so that someone can play with her. We set it up and got it all ready to go before she came home from school. So when she walked through the door, it was ready to be played. She was very excited, and I don't think she was expecting that to happen. She gave Jaime and I both a huge hug and told us thank you. So yesterday afternoon, we played the bowling and a few of the other sport games. It was a lot of fun, because all four of us were able to play!

Well, that's really all that has been going on at our house. I hope you are all having a great week, happy Wednesday!

Family Updates

I thought I'd do a quick post to update you all on our family. I try to always do posts with pictures, so I don't always get to do updates on little things that have no pictures. Since I'm going to use this blog as a scrapbook, I figure I should also do updates of things that I don't have pictures for.

Jaime
Jaime doesn't have a whole lot to update on. He is still working two jobs - in the mornings he works at IHOP and a night he works at a Mexican Taquiera called Cheeky. At IHOP he works as a cook, and at Cheeky he cooks 3 nights and washes dishes 2 nights. We are hopeful that soon he will be able to cut back on hours to spend more time at home with us.

Katie
I feel like I have so much going on and so much to update about, but really I can't think of a whole lot to say. Ha! Obviously I'm still staying home with the kids, which I love! I am constantly trying to look for new things for us to do as a family, especially since it's summer time and it seems like there is so much more to do in the summer. I have also started meal planning on a weekly basis, and so far it is working really well!

Jenny
Jenny starts Kindergarten in three weeks. We should be finding out very soon who her teacher is, and get to meet her teacher and see her classroom before school starts. She is very excited about starting Kindergarten and we are very excited for her! Of course we are a little nervous because there are a lot of changes from Pre-K to Kindergarten, but we know she'll do just great. She is always impressing and surprising us with her intelligence and how well she adapts to things.

Aiden
Aiden is constantly changing and that makes me feel like I could go on and on with updates about him. He will be 20 months old on the 29th of this month. I know I keep repeating myself, but I'm going to say it again....TIME FLIES! I am trying to take advantage of every minute of it. He loves spending time outside, and loves playing in the sprinkler. He's not real crazy about big pools, but he loves playing in small ones like our inflateable one. I think the smaller ones make him feel more secure. He's going to start swimming lessons in September, so hopefully they'll help him.

Family
As a family we have a lot going on soon. We'll be moving into an apartment on August 9th. We have had a horrible experience with this landlord, and we're just ready to get out of here. Our apartment is about a mile from where we live now, and it's a little closer to IHOP. It will have three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. It's a pretty decent size apartment, and I think it will work well for us. We'll also be pretty busy the next few weeks preparing Jenny for school and making sure she has all her supplies and whatever else she'll need.

I guess that's pretty much all we have going on right now. It doesn't seem like it's as much once I get it all typed out. In my head it seems like a lot more. =)
