Busy!

Gulf Shores - 2012
The kids and I went with my Mom to Gulf Shores, Alabama for Labor Day Weekend. My cousin was getting married on the beach there that weekend, which was why we went. It was a lot of fun, the wedding was BEAUTIFUL, and it was a relaxing mini-vacation.
This was Aiden and Sophia's first trip to the ocean. Aiden had been to the beach on a lake before, but never to the ocean. He loved the waves, seashells, and the sand. He had a blast! We didn't stay on the beach very long as it was too hot for Sophia to be out there long. The kids still loved it! The house we stayed at had a pool, so we spent a lot of time in the pool instead.
We ate good food, collected seashells, played in the sand and waves, hung out in the pool, spent time with family and welcomed a new person into our family as well. It was a wonderful weekend!

Jenny Is 7 Years Old!!
Dear Jenny,
Wow! 7 years old already! Where has the time gone? You just started the 2nd grade, and we could not be more proud of you!
Jenny, you are so smart! You can read very well for your age, and you are a wonderful writer too. You love to write stories! We have so many notebooks at home that you have filled up with stories and drawings. You also love to make "tests" for me. Math tests, spelling tests, grammar tests, etc. You also like for me to make them for you. I have always known you are very smart, but sometimes you really surprise me!
You have learned how to ride your bike without training wheels!! What an accomplishment! Your Daddy and I have been practicing with you for at least a year off and on, and you have finally mastered it. You used to get so frustrated and discouraged with riding your bike, but now you love it!
Some of my most favorite times with you are: meeting you at the bus stop in the afternoons. I just love to hear all about the daily happenings in your class. Sometimes you come home and tell me that someone was mean to you, which just breaks my heart. Offering you helpful advice has been a challenge at times. It is so easy to tell you to just treat that person the same way they treated you. But that isn't teaching you anything. It is also hard not to just go to the school and talk with your teacher. I don't mind doing that, but I want you to handle some things on your own. It is so hard sometimes to guide you, without leading or pushing you. Another favorite time of mine is our "girl moments". Whether it be a girl's night at home, a girl's trip to the mall or movies, or just dancing in your room with the stereo blaring, I just love our time together!
This is your third year in Girl Scouts, and also my third year leading your troop. You are a Brownie this year! Girl Scouts has been so much fun, and it is something that I hope to continue to do with you until you decide you don't want to do it anymore.
You are a wonderful daughter, stepdaughter, big sister, student, and friend. We love having you in our family and we can't imagine our lives without you!
I hope you have an awesome 7th birthday!!

Wow - it is already February 9, and this is my first post for 2012. Rather than trying to blog everything that we've been up to, I'm just going to post a few pictures from our 2012 so far. Here goes....

A Look Back at 2010
Looking back on 2010, there aren't really any big, life-changing events that I can think of. In 2010 we played with our kids, spent time with family, cherished our realationships with friends - and gained a few new friends too.
When I look back at the blog posts from the past year, it is obvious that we have been very happy. We have had lots of fun, laughed a lot, and created wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.
Jaime dedicated himself to working harder than I could have ever imagined, allowing me to stay at home with Aiden and Jenny. I found other ways to keep myself busy though. I started going to MOPS, and met a lot of great mothers who are all in different stages of motherhood. I became involved in Jenny's school, and I found the time to co-lead her Girl Scout troop. I started going to a church that I love, and that also inspires me to volunteer and serve the Lord.
We moved from a 4 bedroom home, into a 3 bedroom apartment. We sold or donated a lot of our belongings in order to squeeze ourselves into a much smaller home. Sometimes I regret moving into an apartment, but then I look around and realize that it doesn't matter where we live, or how much space we have. All that matters is that we're together, happy, and healthy.
I am always having to remind myself to pick my battles, don't sweat the small stuff, and to enjoy stop obsessing over how clean the house is or if she laundry is done. My search for personal satisfaction led me right back to my kids. I learned that I never want to be too busy (especially with chores) to see what Aiden or Jenny is doing on that particular day. I never want to be too busy that I can't stop what I'm doing to sit down and play choo-choo train, Hungry Hungry Hippos, or to finger paint. I will do what I can, but my kids will always come first in my life.
One of the most important things that happened to me in 2010, was that I grew closer to God. I know that He loves me just the way I am. He has taught me to see myself the way that He sees me. Of course, I still struggle with this everyday. I am by no means perfect and I am by no means done being taught. I am however, very blessed and very grateful for what I and my family have been blessed with.
I think the thing I am most grateful for from 2010 is that I found a church that I love so much. I really feel at home there. The congregation is much smaller than what I am used to, and that makes it much for personal for me. They encourage you to serve in the church and to help out in the different ministries of the church. I have never felt so involved in a church before and I am truly thankful for that.
In going into 2011 with no presumptions. I'm not setting any resolutions. I don't want to hold myself to standards of any kind that may cause me to stress or obsess over them. I don't want to miss out on the things that matter most in my life - my kids, Jaime, my family, my friends, and Jesus.
I am looking forward to becoming the woman that the Lord wants me to be in 2011. I hope to focus on what I have rather than on what I don't. I want to learn to be more grateful for what I have. Not just the matieral things, but the relationships with people in my life. I am going to strive to be more appreciative of the time that I have with Jaime, Aiden and Jenny, my parents, extended family, and friends.

Catch Up
Just thought I'd do a quick catch up of the last few days....
Jenny came back home on Sunday, and since Jaime was off that night, the four of us went to the playground here in our apartment complex. It's actually pretty nice, and the best part is that it's fenced in! In case you're wondering what's so great about a fence, I'll tell you.... that means that I can sit on the bench and I don't have to worry about Aiden running away or escaping. =)
On Monday we took Jenny to the bus stop that morning and then Aiden and I went to Grandma's house to go out for breakfast with her and Uncle Billy. Later that afternoon Grandma came over for a little while and we took the kids to the playground and then we went out for ice cream. Afterwards it was time for baths and bed. The best part of our Monday....Aiden went pee-pee in the potty for the first time!! It was immediately after his bath, he had squatted down in the floor and he started asking me for a diaper. I put him on the potty, and after a few seconds of him telling me, "I don't want it!" he finally went! At first he only went a little and he seemed like he was trying to keep himself from going, probably because he was afraid he was doing the wrong thing. But then once he started going and Jenny and I started clapping, he knew he was doing the right thing and he finished going on the potty! I am so proud of him!
Wednesday morning Jaime had to be at work at 5:30am, so it was the first day I had to take Jenny to the bus stop without him. Aiden had starting getting sick the day before, and when he woke up Wednesday he was even worse. So he and I made a trip to the doctor that morning. The doctor said he had a common cold and that there was really nothing she could prescribe him because they don't usually prescribe decongestants for children under the age of 6. She said his symptoms could last up to two weeks, and that he could possibly get worse before he got better. I was instructed to bring him back if he started running and fevers or if his symptoms lasted longer than two weeks, but so far he's doing better.
Yesterday (Thursday), Jaime was home with us all day and we ran a few more errands that morning after taking Jenny to the bus. We spent the rest of the day at home cleaning and doing laundry. At 3:10 we headed to the bus stop and after picking Jenny up we went to Walmart to get a few things we needed. On our way home we made a quick stop to pick up something that I had told Jenny we would get her once we moved into our new apartment....
I can't believe it's already Friday! The weeks go by so fast! I can't believe that the summer season is almost officially over and it will be fall before we know it! Honestly, I can't wait. I love the fall and all of the fun fall things that come along with it. Now that Aiden is older and can enjoy more outdoor activities with us, I plan for us to do lots of stuff this fall. I am always looking for oppertunities to do fun things with the kids, and fall seems like a great time to be outside and just enjoy the cool weather!

We stopped at Subway for lunch. I was thinking that it was going to be my first real bad experience eating out with Aiden because at first he refused to eat anything except chips. But I didn't give in, and eventually he started eating his sandwich. Aiden also hadn't had much of a nap that day and he was starting to get sick, so he wasn't in the best of moods.
