Aiden's Pumpkin

I have been trying to work with Aiden on some skills to get him ready for school. He will start Pre-K next August. Today we worked on cutting and glueing.
We made pumpkins today since Halloween is coming, and Aiden loves pumpkins. Here is Aiden's pumpkin....

He cut out the pumpkin, colored the eyes, and glued the eyes and stem on. I think it's cute! Not too bad for his first time using scissors and glue!

Finger Painting Fun!

Remember all that warm weather I mentioned in my last post? Well, it's gone! After the storms we had last night, today is much cooler. It is a beautiful, sunny day - but it sure is chilly! We're hoping it will warm up some this afternoon so that we can go outside and play. But, for now, we have spent our morning inside. To keep Aiden entertained (and under control), we have been finger painting! We haven't tried finger painting in a while, and last time he wasn't crazy about it because of how messy his hands got. This time however, he loved it!

Hopefully the weather will warm up again soon, and we won't have to stay indoors any time soon. But when we do have to stay indoors, at least we'll have something fun to do!!

Spring, Is That You??

For the last couple of weeks the weather here has really started warming up. I am hoping that this weather is the start of Spring, and it isn't just a little tease of what we can expect in a few months. Haha. It isn't even March yet, so there is still a chance that the temperatures will drop again. Let's all cross our fingers that the temperatures will stay warm!

Since it has been so nice out, the kids and I have spent a lot of time outside. Earlier today I took the kids to the playground in our complex to play. It's not as good as the playground at the park, and there are no swings, but the kids still enjoy it. Plus, it is a lot less crowded than a park, sometimes we are the only ones there. This time Aiden found a soccer ball that had been left there by someone else. I'm thinking it may have been left there on purpose tough, because the ball was pretty flat and may have had a hole in it. Aiden and Jenny still had fun playing with it though!

We are really enjoying this warmer weather!

Soccer

I didn't think it was possible for anyone to love soccer more than Jaime. Until I saw this....

By the way, doesn't Jenny look like such a big girl in this picture? She is growing up too fast!

Apparently Aiden and Jenny have their father's love for soccer! Who knows, maybe one day they will be World Cup Champions or Olympic Gold Medalists? :-)

A Wonderful Sunday

We had a pretty good 3-day weekend. How was yours? Actually, ours is more like a 4-day weekend because Jaime is off tomorrow too. The kids and I always enjoy having him home with us. Plus, he helps me get a lot of stuff done around that house that I normally wouldn't have the time or patience to do with an almost-two year old running around!

Sundays are usually pretty relaxing days for us. Jaime works during the day, so the kids and I sit around the house most Sundays and watch movies and TV. Sometimes, if the weather allows, we go outside and play. A lot of Sundays though I spend most of my morning cleaning house. I know I should go to church, and I really want to go to church too. I've gone several times before and I always enjoy it and feel so refreshed and filled with God's Word after the service. The problem is, now that Aiden is home with me all the time, he hates being left in the nursery at church. In fact, 9 out of 10 times they call me out of the service early to come get him because they can't calm him down. Once I pick him up he's fine, so I know it's not that he's hurt or has anything wrong with him - he just wants his Mama. Most of the time, I love that he is so attatched to me. But then there are times (like at church) when I wish he weren't so attached so that he would go play with the other kids and have a good time while I enjoy the church service. Thankfully, he seems to be getting over his seperation anxiety lately. When we go to MOPS he cries when I drop him off, but when I come back to get him he's absolutely fine! No crying, no whining, no nothing. He's usually sitting at the table eating a snack or coloring a picture. So, yesterday Aiden and I went to the church service at the church where I go to MOPS (I was going to Free Chapel for Wed. and Sun. service, MOPS is at Northview). And guess what?? Aiden loved it! I was able to listen to the whole service and they didn't come to get me at all! I'm not sure why this church seems to be working better for him, but I'm glad it is! I think it's because at Free Chapel there are TONS of people so it tends to be a little stressful trying to get him to his class, and there are about 10 other kids in his class with him. At Northview, there are a lot less people and only about 5 kids in his class. If that's not the reason, then maybe he is starting to outgrow his seperation anxiety and is getting to an age where he knows I'm just leaving him for a little while and I'll be back. Either way, I'm happy and so is he! We will definitely be going back this weekend!

After Jaime got home from work Jenny's mom dropped her off with us (Jenny spends a week at her mom's house and then spends a week at our house). When she got here, Jenny had a tummy ache but thankfully she started to feel better soon. Once she started feeling better Jaime and I took the kids to the park. Sunday is Jaime's day to go play soccer with his friends, and while we're there watching the game I take the kids to the playground. We all had a great time, and Jaime's team won their game! Here are a few pictures I took from the game, and a few of the kids on the playground.

After the game, Jaime and I took the kids to Walmart. Jenny got to pick out something for herself for doing such a great job on her spelling test. Her test was over the words she has been learning for the past 9 weeks. There were 43 words total, and out of 43 she got 41 correct. Can you guess what she picked?? My most favorite Disney movie of all time, and I'm pretty sure it is her favorite now too.... Beauty and the Beast!

When we got home we watched the movie together and then had a "sleepover" with Jenny and Aiden in our bed. Obviously we had a wonderful weeked! I hope you all had a great weekend too!

At the Playground

A few days ago, after taking Jaime to work, Aiden and I were sitting at home bored and with nothing much to do. The cleaning was all done, the laundry was done, and we had alread eaten dinner. So, we did the only thing we could think of....

We took a trip to the playground!

The best thing about living in an apartment so far has probably been the playground here. It's a bit small, but it's close by which is convienent. There usually aren't any people there and the playground is fenced in - which is great in that it keeps Aiden from escaping. =)

This looks like the face of a little boy who had lots of fun at the playground!!

Playing Outside

Here are some pictures of the kids playing outside today....

Throwing a frisbee.

Aiden mowing the grass (backwards).

Apparently the concrete needed mowing too.

Here's one that Jenny wanted me to post too...

Jenny likes to pose for pictures! She's such a picture hog! Ha!

Bunk Bed Forts

Yesterday after dinner the kids and I were trying to think of something we could do. I had already spent all afternoon packing boxes, and I was ready for a break! Plus, even though we're moving and I have lots to do, I still like to make time to play with the kids and do something fun. So, we decided to build a bunk bed fort!!

Building a bunk bed fort is really a lot easier than it sounds (at least it is when you're building it for an almost 5 year old and an almost 2 year old). Basically all you need is a bunk bed (duh!) and some blankets. It also would have been helpful if we would have had flashlights - because Aiden likes flashlights and wouldn't have kept getting out of the fort and knocking down the blankets. Ha!

Jenny inside the fort.

Aiden (when he wasn't trying to escape)

HAHA!

Shapes

For Christmas, Aiden got a shape sorter toy. It's one of those that has the different shaped blocks, and you have to put them in the hole that has the same shape. When we first got it, he didn't understand it and he would get frustrated with it. But now, he's figured out how it works and he can get them all in by himself. I've been trying to teach him his shapes by saying things like, "that's a circle, you have to put it in the one for the circle", or "that's a triangle, where do you think the triangle goes?". He's catching on really fast, and I'm sure he'll know what each shape is soon!
