6 Weeks Old!

Sophia, you are 6 weeks old today!

You have definitely become much more alert in the last week or so. You are staying awake for longer periods of time, too. You are getting really close to smiling, and you will occasionally grin at me a little.

We took our first trip to Alabama over the weekend. You are a great car rider! You slept the majority of the way there. We stopped once to feed you. On the way back you got a little fussy during the last 30 minutes of the trip, but I don't blame you! You had been in your carseat for over 5 hours at that point.

You also had your first bottle mixed with rice cereal last night. It was a 4oz bottle with a 1/2 teaspoon of rice cereal. So far you seem to be tolerating the cereal well. We gave it to you around 10:30pm, and you slept through till 6:00am! I'll probably post more about our daily schedule when I do your 2 month post.

You are really starting to enjoy looking at people. When someone holds you you love to stare at their face. You are also starting to recognize your Daddy and I.

It has been so much fun watching you grow and change over the past 6 weeks. We love you so much!

Sophia is One Month Old!

Sophia, you are one month old!!

How has the last month gone by so quickly? You have already changed so much. It has been so fun just getting to know you. You already have such a sweet personality.

You are a good sleeper. You usually go to bed between 9-10pm, and wake up once to eat around 5am. After you eat, you go back to sleep and sleep until around 9:00am. Right now your daddy and I rotate nights getting up with you.

You are eating really well too. You are eating 4oz. of formula every four hours. Occasionally you will take a little more than 4oz. and I can tell that you'll be eating 5oz. soon. Aiden started getting rice cereal in his nighttime bottle around 6 weeks old, so I might start that with you soon too.

You had your first sleepover at Grandma's house this month! Your big brother was pretty jealous. Your Daddy and I missed you while you were gone, but it was nice to get a full night's sleep. Plus, I know you and Grandma enjoyed the bonding time together.

At your two week doctor appointment you weighed 7lbs 7oz (4oz up from your birth weight). You were also 19.5 inches long (.5 inches up from your birth length). You go back to the doctor when you are two months old.

You are getting so close to smiling! You smile a lot in your sleep, and you have smiled randomly when you are awake. It won't be too much longer though before you start smiling at us! You have such a pretty smile, I can't wait to see it more often!

A few nights ago you laughed out loud in your sleep. It was the cutest thing! It scared your Daddy and I because it was totally unexpected.

We are still undecided as to what color your eyes are. We were thinking brown, but sometimes they look green. They don't seem to be as dark as Aiden's or Jenny's. Your Daddy was just telling me today that he doesn't think your eyes are brown. They're more of a hazel color, inbetween brown and green. We'll just have to wait and see!

You love to be held and you love to be talked and sang to. You are so alert, and really seem to be listening when someone is talking or singing to you.

I'm pretty sure you are going to be a Daddy's Girl! He already spoils you, and adores you so much. You usually start out sleeping in your crib (which is in our room) every night, but somehow always end up in our bed. I'm pretty sure I know who is putting you there! ;)

Your big brother and sister both love you so much! Aiden has had a hard time remembering to be gentle with you, but he is getting better. He loves talking to you and showing you all of the cool things he can do. He also likes to make funny faces at you. Sometimes he says you made a funny face back at him. Jenny has already been such a big help with you! She is really good at talking to you and keeping you calm while I make you a bottle. She wants me to bring you to meet all of her friends. There are only two weeks of school left, so we will have to take you to eat lunch with Jenny soon.

You are such a joy, and have been the perfect addition to our family! We love you so much!

Sophie's 2 Week Check Up

Sophia had her 2 week check up yesterday! She was actually 3 weeks and 1 day old, but it was the only appointment that worked around our schedule.

Her doctor said everything looks great! She is up to 7lbs 7oz (she was 7lbs 3oz at birth). She is also 19 1/2 inches long (she was 19 inches at birth). She is growing! While listening to her heart he did hear a small heart murmer, but he said it doesn't sound concerning. A lot of babies are born with heart murmers. Her's sounds small and it will probably close on its own.

She goes back again at 2 months. She will get her first set of shots at that visit as well. :(

Here are a few pictures that I've taken with my phone this week...

The First Two Weeks

Sophia turned two weeks old yesterday! It is hard to believe it has already been two weeks, but it also seems like it has been much longer than that. It is already hard to remember our lives without her in it. It has been an adjustment getting used to having a newborn again, but she fits in so well and makes our family feel complete.

Sophia and I stayed in the hospital for two days, I went in on Wednesday and we came home on Friday. When Aiden was born I couldn't wait to get home from the hospital, with Sophia I probably would have stayed another day if they had let me. Not because I didn't feel well enough to go home, but because at the hospital I was able to lay around all day and the nurses pretty much waited on me and brought me whatever I needed. It was almost like being on a vacation! Haha!

Her first few days at home went pretty smoothly, and so far have continued to go really well. She started out eating about an ounce of formula every three hours or so. Now she takes 2-3 ounces every 3-4 hours. We are working to get her on an eating schedule, and she seems to be adjusting well.

Aiden and Jenny both love her so much! It has been a little tough trying to remind Aiden to be gentle with Sophia, but he is getting better about it. It is difficult to be stern with him about being having to be gentle with Sophia, but also not make him feel like he can't touch her or like we are trying to push him away. Since Jenny is older, and already has a younger sibling, she understands better. They are both always asking us if they can hold Sophie or if Sophie is awake. We let Jenny feed her once, but Aiden has only gotten to hold her so far. I'm sure we'll let him feed her, I'm just not sure that he's ready yet. Maybe once Sophia is a little older I'll feel better about it.

Sophia usually only wakes up once a night to eat. At first she was staying awake after her middle of the night bottle. Now we try to keep her awake in the evenings before bedtime so that she'll go back to sleep after her middle of the night bottle. Jaime and I take turns waking up with her.

Sophia had her first doctor's appointment when she was just five days old. Her pediatrician said she looked good. She goes back next week for her two week check up.
