Last Day of Kindergarten

Tomorrow is Jenny's last day of kindergarten. I've said it once, and I'll say it 1000 more times - TIME ABSOLUTELY FLIES. It seems like it was just weeks ago that it was the night before her first day of kindergarten. Both times are very bittersweet. We are proud of her, and can't wait to watch her grow and learn. But at the same time, it is so sad to see her growing up so quickly.

Here she was a few days before her first day of kindergarten.

Here she is waiting for the bus on the first day of school.

Here she is getting on the bus her first day.

Let Summer Begin!

Even though Jenny still has 5 days of kindergarten left, we have already started enjoying summer. The pool in our complex opened up this weekend so we spent this afternoon enjoying the cool water. I expected the water to be really cold, but it wasn't. It was cool when you first got in, but warmed up nicely. After temperatures in the 90's today, it was a nice, refreshing way to end our day.

Aiden

*I am writing this post mostly for myself. So that years from now, I will remember how silly Aiden was at this age.*

First of all, can someone please tell me, when did my itty bitty, baby boy turn into a full fledged, wild and crazy, big boy!? He will officially be 2 1/2 on the 29th of this month. I can't believe he is already so close to turning 3!! :(

Anyway, here are a few things that Aiden has been up to lately...

  • Aiden has said to me several times this week, "I'm NOT a baby, Mama. I'm a big boy!".

  • After successfully using the potty he says, "Good job Aiden! You're a big boy!".

  • One of his new favorite things to do after I tell him I love him is to say, "I love you more". He and I go back and forth several times "arguing" over who loves who more. I don't care what he says, I still love him more. :)

  • He is becoming more of a daddy's boy everyday. He gets so excited when he knows it's time for his daddy to come home from work. Sometimes during the day he will ask me when daddy is coming home, and then when I tell him he'll say, "I miss my daddy".

  • Not only is he becoming closer to his daddy, but he is also becoming more and more like him everyday. Sometimes when he throws something into the trash can he will say, "Gooooolllll!!!" He hears his daddy say that when he watches soccer on TV.

  • Aiden has really started using his imagination lately. He pretends to be Buzz Lightyear, and will jump off of our furniture and tell me he is Buzz Lightyear and he can fly. He also says "To infinity and beyond!" all the time. Another character he likes to pretend to be is Woody (also from Toy Story). It is hilarious to watch him pretend to be characters he sees on TV. He takes it very seriously.

  • As he gets older, his bad behavior has gone from bad to horrible. He isn't bad all the time, but when he is, it's BAD. Just today, he got into the fingerpaint. When I went into his room, there were four blobs of yellow, blue, green, and red fingerpaint on the carpet. His TV was also covered in fingerpaint as well as his face, arms, and the door to his room. All of it except for the stuff on the carpet was easy to clean up, and I think the carpet cleaner will take the rest out of the carpet. It was Crayola Washable fingerpaint, so hopefully it will all come out.

  • The child is obsessed with Monkey Joe's. He has only been twice, but I think he'd walk to Monkey Joe's if I'd let him. He tells me everyday that he wants to go to Monkey Joe's for his birthday. Poor kid, he doesn't realize that is birthday is still six months away. We are going to take him to Monkey Joe's soon. :)

  • Today was the first time that he cleaned up his room all by himself. I asked him to go clean it while I was cleaning the rest of the house. He went into his room, and was in there for about 20 minutes. When he came out he said, "I'm done!". I really thought he was just kidding, I was very surprised to walk into his room and find that he really had cleaned it. That will probably be the only time that happens. Haha!

  • Everytime I drop Jenny off at Awana, he wants to go so badly. Poor kid. I didn't think he was old enough to go, but after going to the Awana awards ceremony the other night, I saw several kids his age in Awana. He will be going next year. He will be a Puggle. He is very excited about going to Awana!

We love you, Aiden!! We love watching you grow and change into a little boy, but at the same time we wish you could stay this age forever. It is such a fun age! We love you more!

Love,
Mama and Daddy

Potty Training Newsflash!

Just so I will remember this years from now, and to give any of you who are interested an update, I wanted to quickly post about how potty training is going.

We started potty training on April 1st. At first, I started out strong. Aiden wore underwear all day, I took him potty every hour, and diapers were only used at night. After about a week of that, I didn't feel like Aiden was making any progress. Have I ever told y'all that I'm a very impatient person? I wanted Aiden potty trained ASAP, and so after a week with no progress, I slacked off. Aiden wore underwear sometimes, but once he started having accidents, I'd put him back in a diaper.

Fast forward to about a week ago....

I decided to start being more consistent, and to try and be more patient. After all, this is a huge change for Aiden. What seems so simple to me, is a very difficult task for Aiden. So for the past week, I have tried to keep Aiden in underwear as often as possible. I have even taken him to the park in his underwear and let him take naps in it a few times.

Fast forward to today....

Today was what I like to call a "potty training success"! Aiden had 0 accidents in his underwear today!! None! Not one! Zero! Woohoo! Not only that, but TWICE today he said, "I need to go big boy potty". That was the first time he has ever told me he had to go, BEFORE he peed all over himself.

We are definitely making progress! Of course he is still in the beginning stages, and he still has a long way to go, but at least he is making progress!

Movies

A few nights ago Jaime and I had the opportunity (thanks to my mom for babysitting) to go out to dinner and to see a movie. Usually we take turns picking the movie, but it had been so long since we went to the movies, neither of us could remember who's turn it was to pick. Since I picked where we ate dinner at (Mellow Mushroom), Jaime got to choose the movie. He chose Thor. I was really thinking I would hate dislike it, but I actually really liked it. Action movies usually aren't my thing, but this one has a love story in it and a good storyline.

I love getting to the theatre a little early so that I can watch the previews for the upcoming movies. I usually always find something I want to see. This time of year is a good time to be watching previews too, because there are always lots of good movies that come out in the summertime. I thought I would share with you a few that I am looking forward to watching....

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

These movies are always good. Plus, who doesn't want to see Johnny Depp dressed as a pirate?? I'm a little sad that Orlando Bloom won't be in this movie, but I'm excited to see how Penelope Cruz does in her role as Angelica, a woman from Captain Jack Sparrow's past. This movie comes out May 20.

The Hangover Part II

If this movie is anything like the first one, it is sure to be wild, crazy, and hilarious! I can't wait to see it. The Hangover II comes out May 26.

Kung Fu Panda 2

Kung Fu Panda is one of Aiden's favorite movies. He gets excited everytime he sees the previews on TV for this movie. The first Kung Fu Panda was also the first movie that we took Jenny to see in theatres. While Aiden has already been to the theatre to see Megamind and Yogi Bear, this will still be one of his first movies to see in theatres. This movie comes out on May 26.

Also, how could anyone not want to see a movie with a panda in it? :)

The Green Lantern

While this is probably not a movie that I would want to see, I am sure Jaime will want to see it. The Green Lantern comes out June 17.

Mr. Popper's Penguins

This is another movie that I will probably take Jenny and Aiden to see. It is based on a 1938 children's book, and is said to have a modern feel to it. I have never read the book, but with Jim Carrey in it, I'm sure it will be funny. It comes out June 17.

Cars 2

Besides Toy Story, I would said that Cars is Aiden's favorite movie. Jenny likes it too. I have been waiting for this movie to come out since sometime last Fall. I can't wait to see Aiden's reaction to this movie on the Big Screen! Cars 2 comes out June 24.

Captain America: The First Avenger

This is another movie that Jaime will want to go see. As you can tell, he is very into action movies and/or movies about comic book characters. This movie comes out July 22.

The Smurfs

The Smurfs was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid, so I can't wait to see how this movie is. It is going to be shown in 3D which I am looking forward to as well. Although, I probably won't take the kids to see it in 3D (because the 3D glasses don't fit on their faces very well). The Smurfs comes out July 29.

Cowboys vs. Aliens

Once again, this is not a movie I would normally choose for myself, but it is one Jaime will want to see. It has Harrison Ford in it, so it should be pretty good. It comes out July 29.

Unless otherwise noted, all pictures are from Movie Insider.

There are lots of good movies coming out this year! There are many more that are coming out that I'd like to see, but this is a list of the ones that I will definitely probably see. What movies do you want to see this summer?

Weekly Randoms

Yay for it already being Thursday! It's almost the weekend!

It has been so hot here lately. The highs have been in the high 80's to low 90's. I thought it was still Spring, but apparently Summer decided to come a little early this year. If this is a sign of the months to come, I may have to stay indoors with the air conditioner on all summer. Haha!

I can't believe there are only a little over two weeks of school left! My little Kindergarten Baby is almost a 1st grader!! Why does 1st grade seem so much "bigger" than kindergarten? It's only a year difference, but it seems like much more than that. Good thing is, Jenny has done great in school all year! She actually has her last spelling test of the year this Friday. The test is a review over all of her words learned this year - there are 237 words! She and I have been practicing all week, and she is doing really good! When we practiced yesterday, she only missed 2 out of 237. I had planned on giving her a special gift after kindergarten is over, but I told her that if she got at least 220 out of 237 correct, I would give her the gift on Friday instead. She is trying really hard!

Aiden's new favorite movie is Toy Story. There for a while he really liked Cars. He still does, but I think he now likes Toy Story better. He has a Woody doll and a Buzz Lightyear already, and he plays with them all the time. He wants to take Woody with him everywhere. It drives me crazy because Woody's hat doesn't stay on his head, so I am always having to search for Woody's hat and make sure we have it before we leave anywhere. A few weeks ago I had to dump the toy box out several times to get Woody's hat out of the bottom of it. I really need to just glue the hat to Woody's head. Haha!

Aiden also has a Mr. Potato Head obsession. He loves taking all of the pieces off and then rebuilding him. Once again, normally not a problem - except for when he loses pieces and I have to tear the house apart trying to find them. He also gets upset when he can't get the pieces on correctly. He brings me Mr. Potato Head at least once a day and tells me that "Mr. Potato Head isn't perfect anymore! Mr. Potato Head is broken!". Haha. He has also recently started telling me that "Aiden isn't perfect anymore!". I'm not sure what he means, because he says it very randomly. I was thinking maybe he said it whenever he got hurt or something, but he says it sometimes when he is perfectly fine. Weird.

For Mother's Day, Jaime bought me an Amazon Kindle! I have been wanting one for a while now, but debated about getting one or not. I love reading, and spend so much money on books. Since books are cheaper on the Kindle, Jaime thought it would be a good investment for us. Now that I have it, I love it! I can buy tons of books and never even have to leave my house!

The other day when Jenny and I were in the car, she informed me that she has hair growing on her legs and she needs to start shaving. I then informed her that she was nuts, and she is only 5 years old - she will not be shaving anytime soon. Haha.

Yesterday after I took Jenny to school, Aiden and I went through the drive-thru at Dunkin' Donuts. I think it may have been my first time trying their coffee. I'm not sure if I have been living under a rock or what, but that was the best coffee I have ever had! Watch out Starbucks! :)

After hearing so many good things about it, I finally started watching The Voice. Just like everyone else, I am hooked! It is so good - much better than American Idol. I love that it is based on their talent and nothing else, since the judges can't even see them before they make their choice. American Idol is based more on their "look" rather than their talent.

Since Aiden has started potty training, I was a load of his clothes at least once a day. It's not even a full load, it's mostly just underwear and shorts. Potty training Aiden is much harder than I ever remember it being with Jenny. Maybe because with Jenny I didn't have so much other stuff going on? Sometimes with Aiden I feel like I just don't have time for it. Or like we are too busy and on the go too much for potty training right now. I have been told by many people that consistency is key when it comes to potty training. It's hard to be consistent about potty training when I have a schedule that is anything but consistent. He is getting better though, so hopefully it won't be too much longer.

Do you ever have weeks or days where you feel like you have been so busy but at the same time you feel like you haven't been doing anything? That's how I feel lately. I feel like I haven't hardly been home because we've been so busy, but at the same time my house is a big mess. We haven't even been here, how did it get so messy?

I think that's about all I have time for today. I hope you are all having a great week! :)

My Behind the Scenes

"One reason we struggle with insecurity; we're comparing our behind the scenes to everyone else's highlight reel." -Steven Furtick

Yesterday I saw this quote on Twitter, and it really spoke to me. Later, I saw that a few bloggers, Jenn and Whitney, were doing posts about their "behind the scenes". I liked the idea so much, that I decided to write my own "behind the scenes" post.

First, let me start by telling you that I am a very insecure person. I look around at all these other moms who seem to have it all together. They are always on time, they dress well, their hair and make up looks great, their kids are always clean and looking nice, etc. Then I think to myself, "If I could just be more like her...", or "I wish my life was as perfect as her's...".

There are times when people give me much more credit than I deserve. I am definitely not Supermom, although I have been told before that I am. I am not an organized person, but I have gotten comments about how I seem to have it all together. As much as I appreciate those comments, I also cower inside thinking that I have led someone to believe that I have it all together, or that I am always a certain way. If only they could be a fly on the wall in my house to see my day to day happenings, my good and my bad moments days. My behind the scenes, if you will. So, here goes...my behind the scenes. I hope that I can at least encourage a few of you, and make you feel a little better about your housekeeping and/or parenting.

  •  I am great about putting our dirty clothes in the washer and dryer. In fact, I don't mind that part at all. It's the folding/hanging and putting away part that I don't like. On any given day you will find several loads of clean clothes sitting in baskets in the floor of my room, the laundry room, the bathroom, etc.
  • Very rarely do I ever cook dinner. Most of the time we go out to eat, get take out, or Jaime cooks. I do cook sometimes, but when I do, it is usually either spaghetti or tacos.
  • Unless I have somewhere to go that day, I am probably sitting around the house in my PJ's without makeup, and with my hair up in a sloppy ponytail. In fact, that's how I am right now this very moment. Most of the time Aiden would still be in his PJ's too, but we are potty training so he is only wearing underwear right now.
  • Sometimes at night after the kids are in bed, I feel so guilty for not spending enough time with them, not talking to the enough, not playing with them enough, yelling too much, being too busy, etc etc etc. Sometimes on those nights I feel so guilty that I will go get them out of their bed, and let them sleep with me in my bed to make up for it.
  • We usually pay our bills late. Not because we can't afford them, but because I forget to pay them. In fact, our cable has been turned off before simply because I forgot to pay the bill. Even after it was off, I still didn't remember. I even called the cable company to report a problem with our cable. They told me that there wasn't a problem, it was turned off because I never paid the bill. Oops!
  • Sometimes I will go into the bathroom, shut and lock the door, and just pretend that I'm using the bathroom. I will do anything for a few minutes of quiet time.
  • My children watch TV more often than I'd like to admit.
  • Our bed is unmade more than it is made.
  • If you were to come over to my house unannounced, you would probably find my house is a mess. Complete with a sink full of dishes, mail and other random papers all over the place, toys in the floor of every room,  and clothes (most of them dirty) all over the house.
  • I drink more Coke than I should, and I only drink water when we have nothing else to drink. I will drink a glass of milk or juice before I will even consider drinking water.
So there you have it. My behind the scenes. I could keep going and tell you much more, but I have a child who is running around the house in nothing but underwear and I need to take him potty. If you wanna know anything else, email me at ajqmama{at}gmail{dot}com. I would love to hear from you!

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all of the Moms out there! Being a mother is the hardest job in the world, but is also the most rewarding! Please know that I am also thinking of and praying for all of you who long to be a mother, have lost your mother, or lost your child. Mother's Day is a wonderful day to celebrate mothers, but for some, it is a very sad and difficult day. If you feel sad today, please know that I am praying for you and that God has a plan for you!

Happy Mother's Day!

Random Phone Pics

Aiden's tattoos he got from Uncle Billy

Licking the wisks after making banana pudding.

A sweet Easter card I got from a friend on Twitter.

Aiden chowing down on some corn on the cob. My mom and I laughed so hard at the way he was eating it. Everytime he would take a bite he would talk about how good it was. Haha!

On Sunday Jaime, Aiden, and I went to eat dinner at Applebee's. Aiden fell asleep during dinner.

A few weeks ago, when I was outside, Aiden came outside with me. He came outside a few minutes after I did though, and when he came out, these are the shoes he had on. He said they were "flip-flops". Hilarious!

This is from a Girl Scout outing that Jenny and I went to a few weekends ago. This was snack time. They were making ladybugs with apple halves, peanut butter, raisens, and pretzel sticks. Cute!
